Shop / hawok enameled cast iron
Stargazer, a manufacturer of American-made cast iron cookware based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, was founded in 2015. Our highly-acclaimed skillets are renowned for their smooth surface finish and modern, practical design, designed for exceptional performance.
The Stargazer Cast Iron story began in 2015 when housewares designer Peter Huntley, disenchanted by the lack of quality and accountability in modern goods manufactured overseas, set out to build a product and company that could be held to a higher standard. Convinced people should have access to high-quality, well-designed cast iron at a reasonable price, Huntley spent six months, 21 designs, and several prototypes before designing the first Stargazer skillet. Working tirelessly in his garage, Huntley hand-sanded the castings to a smooth finish, seasoned them in his home oven, boxed them on the dining room floor, and drove them, one compact carload at a time, to the local post office to ship. Today, tens of thousands of skillets later, Stargazer continues to grow, guided by the principles established in 2015.
The benefits of cooking with cast iron are numerous. Unlike some cookware coated with non-stick chemicals, cast iron develops a natural non-stick surface through seasoning - a process of polymerizing fats and oils onto the skillet. Cast iron also retains heat exceptionally well, making it great for searing steaks, and it can be used on any cooking surface, including gas, electric, induction, grill, or open fire. Importantly, cast iron cookware is virtually indestructible and often handed down from generation to generation.
Stargazer skillets begin their journey at our foundry, where domestically sourced, primarily recycled iron is melted at 2,800°F, refined, and poured into sand and clay molds through a process called "green sand" casting. The raw castings then undergo a CNC machining process to precisely dial in the optimal weight and thickness, creating a smooth, non-stick cooking surface. Finally, our craftsmen hand-finish each skillet, grinding and smoothing any remaining artifacts before applying our proprietary two-step surface treatment, resulting in the signature Stargazer smooth, micro-textured cooking surface.
Stargazer cookware is 100% non-toxic, made of grey iron, and tested multiple times throughout production to ensure freedom from toxins and heavy metals. Our seasoning blend of canola, grapeseed, and sunflower oils is non-GMO, vegetarian/vegan friendly, and soy, peanut, and gluten-free. Cleaning cast iron is easy - simply allow the skillet to cool, rinse under hot water with a small amount of gentle soap, and dry thoroughly.
Stargazer cookware is built to last many lifetimes and backed by a lifetime warranty. Whether you're searing steaks, frying eggs, baking desserts, or any other culinary adventure, our American-made, precision-crafted cast iron skillets offer exceptional performance, durability, and a seamless pouring experience.
